Who are we?

Beyond the Sahara is an Australian owned and run business fully registered with the Department of Fair Trade, Queensland, Australia (with an ACN), and also an Australian Business Number (ABN)).

Beyond the Sahara is known for selling unusual and unique items not easily found in Australia or other western countries with over twenty years experience in primitive artifacts, carvings and Sculpture, and coming from an art enriched background with antique art dealer parents, and having travelled extensively overseas - and still more to come - you can be certain that our web site Galleries contain the most amazing and unique items along with the more usual items as well, from Middle Eastern and North African, West African and Indian countries along with the unique Zimbabwean metal sculptures, and also Australian made Contemporary Metal Sculptures and all at extremely reasonable prices for the high standard of quality.

We have been developing a good strong client list, who return to buy from us again and again, this reputation is something we respect and intend to develop and can only be achieved by offering highly unique and hard to source items.
Think of quality- and you'll think of 'Beyond the Sahara'!

All pieces are unique, the Zimbabwean metal sculptures hand made by the Shona Tribe of Zimbabwe are the latest growing trend in garden art.
The scrap metal is sourced by villagers, providing an income for them, and once paid for, the metal is burned, hand shaped and/or welded into their desired shapes, treated and coated, and presented for sale. I buy all the Zimbabwean sculptures from a few different sources. Two seperate suppliers are each owners of a factories located in Harare, Zimbabwe, one of the southern countries of Africa. Please see my 'Authenticity' page for some photos of the actual sculptors!

The Middle Eastern, West and North African and Indian items are all hand made. Each item is hand picked by suppliers during trips, and shipped to Australia. Containers arrive fortnightly- so please ask if you are wanting any item from these countries, as chances are I have it already or can get it, and can even get specific items made to your specifications and then shipped to any country.

All items listed as Antique can have a certificate of proof of it's authenticity as being antique, and be delivered with each and every Antique item sold by Beyond the Sahara - please ask for yours with your purchase.

All our items are stated which countries they are from and are guaranteed to be from these countries and NOT one of the cheap Asian imitation copies that are showing up in some retail shops and yet selling for similar prices.

All the Middle Eastern and Indian sculptures are individually hand crafted by master sculptors using ancient methods of sculpting.
We can get fantastic Indian carved sculptures of all descriptions- wood, bronze, brass, stone, etc. All with fantastic detail and high quality, unseen in factory made imitations.
Bronzes and Brass were produced and still are to this day by a few Indian tribes using the lost wax method, a highly innovative process requiring great skill, experience and patience. Interestingly enough- the lost wax method was also used by the West Africans, notably in the Kingdom of Benin.
Once the mould has been broken, as what happens with EVERY item- the casing is lost making NO TWO items ever the same!

We supply genuine Indian & Middle Eastern furniture- including certified Antique furniture and collectables.
Please ask if you are after something specific- we can get Antique Indian carved wood doors of all styles and sizes, other Tribal wood carved doors, panels & shutters, damchayas, Antique chests, tables, bookcases, etc, all types of Indian furniture and statues, decorated hand carved rocking horses, decorative camel saddles, numerous decor items from India and The Middle East, including some Museum pieces, statues of all kinds and sizes, carpets of all styles and sizes, cushions and other unique textiles, collectables of different types, Moroccan and Indian Light Fittings and Lamps, furniture and decor items from India, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey and other Middle Eastern counties, including certified Antique items (certified Antique by the Antique Inspector with the Australian Customs Department), West African Mudcloth bedspreads, Indian genuine Sari material doona/duvet covers with matching pillow cases in a number of gorgeous colours, various African carvings/sculptures, Indian, Middle Eastern and African mirrors of all sizes and shapes, woven baskets from Ghana, Raku pottery hand made in South Africa, numerous Decor bowls and decor boxes of all shapes and styles from all these different countries, including jewellery boxes of all types, Moroccan Brass Tobacco Tins, Antique Chapati brass round tins from India and Pakistan, Turkish solid brass Taps, Turkish marble basins & Turkish copper pots of all sizes and shapes, including Antique pots and also Ceramic pots of all shapes and sizes, even a camel saddle rug- straight from the Sahara!
